Self-Healing Cutting Mat

A cutting mat is almost indispensible for quilting.  The “self-healing” type last longer and minimize the effect old cuts have on your work.  One with a grid reduces the need for rulers.  Marked 45 degree lines help, especially with binding.

Cutting matts come in all sizes, but a 24″ by 36″ size is good for most purposes.  They do not last forever, but last many months depending on use.

Quilter’s Pins

Quilting pins are longer than regular sewing pins and have a larger head. Ideal for holding multiple layers of fabric, loose weaves, synthetic furs, plush velvets and bulky fabrics.

TIP: Replace your pins periodically! They get dull and do not go through fabric as easily as when new.
